Geographical situation.
Canada is
a country in located in North America. Canada occupies much of the
continent of North America, sharing land borders with the contiguous United States to the south, and the US state of Alaska to the northwest. Canada stretches from the Atlantic Ocean in
the east to the Pacific Ocean in the west; to the north lies the Arctic Ocean.
Spoken languages in Canada.
The official languages of Canada are English and French,
which "have equality of status and equal rights and privileges as to their
use in all institutions of the Parliament according to
Canada's constitution. In Canada, english is spoken by 59.6% of total population and french is spoken by 21.3%. Here you can see the most spoken languages in Canada.
How did english become an official language in Canada?
English
has been a language of government in each of the porvinces since their
inception as British colonies but it has always benn different from British
english. This is something that we are going to see later. In 1931, Canada
reached the independence by the Statute of Westminster.

writing, Canadians may start a sentence with As well, in the sense of "in addition"; this
construction is a Canadianism.
In speech
and in writing, Canadian English speakers permit a transitive form for some
past tense verbs where only an intransitive form is permitted in most other
dialects.
